video tutorial – saving custom shapes [Apple Motion 3]

Tips and Tricks,

For those of you who have already read this post, I have now created Video Tutorial with few extras. follow the link below…..

It is possible to use already written script by Motion Smart to create a custom shapes that can be saved in your library of shapes and used all the time, this method will enable you to have more flexibility while your work in Apple Motion. To see how this is done follow this link…..

Step 01.

Go to Motion Smart and download a script Illustrator path to Motion shape script.

Step 02.
Install the script (follow the read me file inside of Motion shape script folder).

Step 03.
Export your Illustrator Shapes to desktop (again follow the read me file inside the Motion shape script folder).

Step 04.
Then navigate to your hard disk (whatever it is named. i.e hard disk), then go to library (not your user library), then go to Application Support folder, find Final Cut Studio folder. Inside of the Final Cut Studio folder there is a folder for Motion open this folder, inside of the Motion folder find folder called Library (open Library folder), then find folder called Shapes.

Before you copy your shapes make sure Apple Motion is Closed……;-)

Open folder called shapes and drag and drop your created shapes from illustrator inside.
You will be prompted to enter your Admin password (do not be scared, enter your password).
Your shapes will be permanently stored inside shape folder.

Step 05.
launch Apple Motion 3, navigate to library and then click on shapes, (if you have done the steps above you will find additional shapes permanently added to your shape library).

Movie now available:

Another essential Motion tutorial thank you. Just a quick question tho. I’m not an Illustrator fan, however i have some really cool vector art work I would love to use in Motion. However the artwork was created using a number of different paths with Illustrator and are grouped. I have ungrouped the paths and tried to export them using the script and it wont work. Do you know of the best way of combining a number of paths to create one path of the for the image, so that I can bring it in to Motion?

    Thanks in advance

Top tutorial! What is the best way of creating a custom shape from an image made up of paths grouped?. I’ve tried to ungroup them, merging the paths, even tried them as a compound path. The script still won’t export the image.

Sorry to tell you the script works only with a path as stated in the instructions, I have not been able to do anything rather than what I have showed you in this tutorial. I am sure that Motion 4 would have such features.I know this does not help you but it is the way things are at the moment
