Particle Metrix
Video Tutorial…

particle_matrix_small1

I managed to create video tutorial Particle Metrix finally. I hope you will enjoy this tutorial and learn few new Apple Motion 3 tricks and techniques.

I only received this filter yesterday. I was very excited to try it out. One word can be used to explain this filter, AMAZING.

I wanted to create a sense of letters vanishing from a surface, sort of the wind is blowing the letters away. I have also used few behaviors, filters and camera moves to achieve this. Lets not forget our dear friend Lost and Taken who have provided me with the required images for this animation.

I hope you can appreciate the final outcome. You all know you want this filter and you wanted now;-). I was able to make this in the half an hour I played with it, think about what can be achieved if you really sit down and explore this filter in much more detail. I would also like to say that I was amazed as to how many different settings this filter have. Clearly a winner.

Please leave comments, I am always interested to know your opinion.

    HI Peter.

I am happy I had time to do this tutorial. I think you have amazing filter so I wanted people to see it in action.

Very advanced and nicely done tutorial that I know I will be able to use in the future. Especially so since I will be shooting in Egypt in Nov. I did notice, however, that once you start with the camera moves at around 11:40 into the tutorial, you fail to say that the playhead needs to be moved. This is a pretty powerful tutorial. Am I wrong about this?

    HI back

I am very happy you like what I have done with Particle Metrix. I can not however see the problem with not playhead at 11:20. Could you elaborate more please.
Show me when you do something with this technique please.

I believe at 11:40, not 11:20, I saw the playhead move from the beginning of the timeline to somewhere in the middle. This occurred as you began to go into the camera settings. I didn’t recall you saying to move the playhead indicator which, I think may be important. No?

Yeas you are correct about this. However I show the timing pane and I am very specific about how much and where the camera behaviors need to be placed and from which frame to which frame. I think this have happened as I edit my video tutorial after I make them. I am hoping you are able to follow with the tutorial, if not let me know where are you stuck. I am sure I can help. Many thanks for pointing this out to me. Much appreciated.

HI Zak, Just want to clarify that Motion does support layered PSD files; but not Ai files. Not yet

  8. Gravatar zak — 14/07/2009

That is true. However you can export layerd PSD document from Illustrator and then use this in Apple Motion. Downfall is thst everything will be rasterised (not a vector any more). To export the file as a PSD from Illstrator do the following. From file use export then export it to Photoshop (pds).
    I hope this helps.
