review and tutorial …

In this review/tutorial I am looking into a very interesting filter called Photocopy for FCP from Digital Film Tools.

Photocopy filter for FCP is exactly the same as the Photocopy filter for Photoshop, the difference is that this filter is for Video Editing rather than for image manipulation and as such it is used from within Final Cut Pro. This filter mimics cross processing effects with a twist . As taken from their website, “We have painstakingly analyzed the brightness, color, tone, detail, grain and texture of some of the world’s greatest movies, paintings, photographs and historical photographic processes”. The filter allows user much more control over how images look visually than a ordinary action which we know can be found online everywhere.

Photocopy filter for Final Cut Pro uses cross processing from a varied clearly labeled sections such as Movies, Paintings, Film, Photographs, Processes. Further more there is a Custom section or tab which enables user to create there own custom processes. For those who have this filter for Photoshop and Final Cut Pro added benefit is that your saved presets are available in both programs. This then enables the user to build a massive library of custom presets. In addition the Final Cut Version have a Match image well, enabling the users to match colour, tone, grain and texture from one footage to another. Those can be created by experimenting with the presets already build in into a filter and saving a version of those. Please note that the filter contains a vast number of presets that can be used.

I loved the fact that it had it’s own GUI which was pleasantly and logically arranged. The difference between Final Cut version V Photoshop version is that once the preset is applied from it’s own GUI you then have to continue to work with this filter from a viewer window of FCP. I found that the best way is to export an still image to Photoshop and experiment there with the filter and save the presets. This method will enable you not to render your footage all the time in order to see the change. However the filter in FCP is quite responsive.

PhotoCopy video/film license will allow user to run it in Adobe After Effects, Apple Final Cut Pro and Avid Editing Systems if installed on the same machine. So, you can run in three host applications for the price of one.

The manual is written well and to the point, very often a problem in my opinion with third party plug-ins.

The price of the filter is very well placed costing around $195. Fairly cheap considering what are you getting for that price.

For more info on this filter please see my in-depth review/tutorial below.

In this review/tutorial I am looking into a very interesting filter called PHOTOCOPY from Digital Film Tools.

This filter produces a type of Cross Processing effect to Images. What is different about this filter to other cross processing filter and effects is the fact that it does not only mimics the image colour and tone. This filter mimics quite a lot more. As taken from their website, “We have painstakingly analyzed the brightness, color, tone, detail, grain and texture of some of the world’s greatest movies, paintings, photographs and historical photographic processes”. The filter allows user much more control than a ordinary action which we know can be found online everywhere.

I was very excited to see that this filter allows user to use a cross processing from a varied clearly labeled sections such as Movies, Paintings, Film, Photographs, Processes and the Custom section or tab which enables user to create it’s own custom processes. Those can be created by experimenting with the presets already build in into a filter and saving a version of those. Please note that the filter contains a vast number of presets that can be used.

I loved the fact that it had it’s own GUI which was pleasantly and logically arranged. I thought that even novices to Photoshop would be able to work with Photocopy filter freely and confidently, while producing exciting visual outcomes.

You can easily create presets from your own images this function is accessed by selecting Cmd-N on a Mac or Ctr-N on Windows. A separate interface opens and allows you to memorize the brightness, color, tone, detail and grain of the image as well as texture.

The manual is written well and to the point, very often a problem in my opinion with third party plug-ins.

While I was making my video tutorial I noticed that the Plug-in was very responsive to my changes even though I was working on a very high resolution images.

Overall what makes this filter very good is it’s ability to mimic different processes while retaining the grain and the texture of the applied presets. The price of the filter is very well placed costing around $95.

I have further bought a Iphone App which proved very useful, I was able to play around with the photographs on my Iphone in a exact same way that the software for Photoshop or Final Cut Pro worked. I love the fact that you can easily apply different effects and save the images on your Iphone. I lovely new App that will stay with me for a very long time…

For more info on this filter please see my in-depth review/tutorial below.

This is my recent collection of Digital Illustration based around retro feel. In the illustrations I explored different creative possibilities of Adobe Photoahop and Adobe Illustrator CS5.

Collections of experimental and 2d abstract illustrations created by using Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop.

As of lately my desire to create a new set of illustrations was very overwhelming, I have not done anything for more than a year, well not experimentally. I tried to elaborate a retro style with what is currently very contemporary digital art. I hope you will like what I made. All of the illustrations where made in Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop.

In this tutorial I am covering the use of BSC Chroma Key Studio and BSC Film Look Effect (Boris FxPlug 7).
I am sure you have read my Boris FxPlug 7 review in my previous post. In this tutorial I wanted to demonstrate how easy it is to Key Out Blue/Green Screen with the use of Chroma Key Studio, and in addition I have used a amazing Film Look to give my footage and my final composition a specific colour outlook.

In fact in this tutorial I have used a footage of Humming Bird from Artbeats which was shot against a blue sky. I would like to thank Arbeats for providing this brilliant piece of footage.

Both effects are easy to use and easy to understand, Film Look effect have quite a few different presets that can be used as a final film outcome or a starting point to what ever you want to achieve.

Further to my Podcast post I am happy to tell you that I have found a way to provide you with the 720p high resolution of my tutorial from now on via Blip TV.

In each post I will continue to provide smaller resolution of my tutorial, however if you want to see higher resolution HD720p versions of my tutorials you will have to go to my Channel http://embryo.blip.tv/ where you will be able to see all of my tutorials and animations.

Stopping to Work Soon …

URGENT NOTICE. As form 10th of September 2010, I will no longer be able to provide Podcast service.

I have been privileged to offer free podcasts to all users of Embryo in the last few years. Although this was amazing FREE service that enabled you to download very high resolution of tutorials offered on Embryo, I am very sad to be telling you that this service will stop to work on the 10.09.2010.

This is simply because the cost of running the site, server, podcast etc have become to big and I have not been able to secure funding that will enable me to continue to provide this amazing service.

I have tried my best but the funding did not come, therefore with greatest of sadness I am forced to terminate this service. So please download what you can.

This does not mean that I am stopping my work at Embryo, this just means that I am not able to provide you with Podcast service unless someone helps me with the costs of Podcasts. I will try to produce HD720p tutorials via Blip TV if this is possibility from now on.

At this point I like to know what do you think about termination of Podcast service, please be constructive in posting your suggestions and your thoughts.
